What is the best type of coupon organizer?

Monday, March 2nd, 2009

Strange as it may seem, I don’t use a traditional type of coupon organizer. I actually use a mini-file folder that is designed to separate checks by month. It’s about 4” x 8” in size with an elastic band as a closer. Inside are dividers that I label and use to separate my coupons into categories.

I love the category method because it matches up with the store flyer and with the aisles in the supermarket. It’s a very efficient and time saving method. In each category I may have 5 or 6 of the same type of coupon. For example when it comes to tissues, I’m not fussy. I think all the brands are basically good. So in my paper good category I keep Scotties, Kleenex and Puffs. Depending on which tissue brand is on sale, I can use a corresponding coupon.

Other organizers may look prettier, but my mini-file folder is sturdy and large enough to hold my cache of coupons. I also put my name, address and phone number on the outside in case, as I have in the past, left my coupons at the store.

How to Find Stores that Double Coupons

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

One of the most common questions I hear is how to Find a Grocery that doubles coupon values. First of course there’s always word of mouth, one friend tells another. It’s not very scientific but it is effective. Next you can check the supermarket’s weekly flyer. Almost all flyers will indicate somewhere on the front page that they will double coupon values. The last place is the store itself.

Details of the doubling are also available at the store, generally the courtesy desk. For example, my local A&P will double any coupon with a value of $.50 or less, raising the coupon value to $1.00. My A&P also has no limits on the number of coupons you can use for doubling.

But doubling is an individual store creation. So the store can set any guidelines it chooses. Some stores limit the number of coupons that can be doubled to 5. Others may limit the day you can use doubles, such as Tuesday (generally a slow day). The best, check with all your local stores and shop at the ones that give you the best coupon deals.

How to use the internet to find grocery coupons

Saturday, January 24th, 2009

When I started refunding and couponing in 1973, everything was a hard copy, no internet. But I’ve gotten used to this new phenomenon and I love it. Printable coupon and refund offers are available all of the time offering cash back, free coupons and oh so much more. Be adventurous, try the web site of your favorite manufacturer: a couple of my favorites are: www.colgate.com, and www.kelloggs.com. Go to the Refundle Bundle Bulletin Board, www.refundlebundle.com and check for daily postings of great offers, and list some of your own.

Double Coupons – The key to BIG savings

Monday, December 29th, 2008

Everyone has a favorite supermarket. I have a favorite too. But to be a favorite, it has to meet at least some basic criteria. First, I prefer a market that offers DOUBLE COUPONS. Double Coupons began sometime in the 1970’s, and the phenomenon doubled the face value of the coupon. For example, a $.50 coupon would net you a $1.00 off the cost of the product. Its purpose was to encourage more customers and to increase consumer spending. And it worked. People bought more because they saved more. And least that was their hope. The savvy consumer could boast increased savings.

To make sure you really save, use the double coupons:

Koffee Klatch

Monday, December 22nd, 2008

Not everyone uses the same products. That is evident by the fact that there are over 27,000 different products in the average supermarket. To make grocery items stand-out coupons are used to attract attention. But with over 250 billion coupons issued only a small percentage are ever redeemed.

To maximize coupon use, trading is a wonderful pastime. I traded at work when I was a teacher and also at my local bowling alley when I was in a league. It was great fun, and helps make new friends. This concept has expanded. Libraries have set up trading bins, some supermarkets, worker’s lunchrooms, children’s play groups, and the most famous of all: The Koffee Klatch-be creative, find some people and set up your own bin. You can double your savings with the extra coupons.
