About my book, Cashing in at the Checkout

Thursday, February 26th, 2009

Thirty-seven years ago I became a super-shopper and began Refundle Bundle Magazine, a guide to coupons and refunds. After a few years of doing television and radio shows I was contacted by a book publisher to write and share my secrets with others. I was thrilled. I worked with a writer who put all of my ideas into a book, Cashing in at The Checkout: www.refundlebundle.com

Cashing in at The Checkout was a dream come true. After all was said and done, it had sold 100,000 hard-cover copies and 1 million in soft-cover. I received thousands of letters from consumers learning how to coupon shop and save. I felt like a celebrity going from a New York City school teacher to a coupon expert. Today I thank all my loyal readers.

I’d love to receive your letters too, we can print and post them in Refundle Bundle. Just go to www.refundlebundle.com and click on ‘contact us’. I read and answer every piece of mail I receive.

What is supershopping?

Sunday, February 22nd, 2009

Over the years super shoppers have managed to create their own underground network in the world of shopping. People are creative, and as the old saying goes ‘Necessity is the Mother of Invention’. Thus super-shopping was generally the result of tough economic times, either individually or for the country as a whole. Super-shopping and Smart-Shopping can almost be interchanged.

Shoppers armed with coupons and knowledge of store sales headed for the stores and concentrated on ways to save. They compared prices, product sizes, found introductory specials and manufacturers specially marked packages and started to save money and gain recognition. Today about 85% of all consumers use coupons to help reduce.

To get the coupons you need to super-shop go to www.selectcouponprogram.com and begin those savings today.

What is Refundle Bundle?

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

For the past 37 years I have been publishing Refundle Bundle Magazine: a couponers’ and refunders’ 48-page guide to available refunds, coupons, deals, tips, freebies and much more. Each issue boasts about 400 various types of offers that can help you save hundreds of dollars on your grocery bill. 37 years ago I was dubbed the Coupon Queen by Betty Furness when I paid $7.07 for $130.00 worth of groceries.

I’m proud to see that so many other shoppers have attained a similar title and the same ability to save. It’s a testament to the fact that couponing and refunding work. 37 years later, the savings are just as dramatic as they were the day I met Betty Furness’ staff at Key Food in Yonkers. You can join the ranks of these super-savers. Subscribe to Refundle Bundle at www.refundlebundle.com and tell me about your success stories too. We’d love to print and post them.

How to Find Stores that Double Coupons

Sunday, February 8th, 2009

One of the most common questions I hear is how to Find a Grocery that doubles coupon values. First of course there’s always word of mouth, one friend tells another. It’s not very scientific but it is effective. Next you can check the supermarket’s weekly flyer. Almost all flyers will indicate somewhere on the front page that they will double coupon values. The last place is the store itself.

Details of the doubling are also available at the store, generally the courtesy desk. For example, my local A&P will double any coupon with a value of $.50 or less, raising the coupon value to $1.00. My A&P also has no limits on the number of coupons you can use for doubling.

But doubling is an individual store creation. So the store can set any guidelines it chooses. Some stores limit the number of coupons that can be doubled to 5. Others may limit the day you can use doubles, such as Tuesday (generally a slow day). The best, check with all your local stores and shop at the ones that give you the best coupon deals.

Use grocery coupons to help plan your meals

Friday, February 6th, 2009

Plan your meals around store sales and coupon availability. This week chicken cutlets are on sale: 10 lbs. for $1.65 per pound. A really good buy. Since I can’t use 10 lbs at once, I break up the package into 10 smaller ones providing the protein portion for $1.65 per meal. Next, Birds frozen vegetables are on sale 5 for $5. With my $.50/2 coupons doubled my final cost is $2.50 for the 5 boxes. Using 1 per meal, to serve with my chicken, each of these meals will cost $2.15.

So be smart, frugal and coupon conscious when planning your menus. It does work. Send me any ideas you have for sharing menus and coupons.

Stocking Up and Garage Sales

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

Refunders are a resourceful lot. A couple of years ago I was in touch with a fellow couponer. He loved getting things on sale and used his coupons to the fullest. As a matter of fact he stocked up so much on non-perishable items i.e. detergents, toothpaste, household cleaners, paper goods that his garage was being over-run. He came up with a great idea: a Garage Sale. He could sell his extra products at a 50% reduction, thereby saving the buyer and making some extra money for himself. He did quite well, and cleaned out his garage at the same time.

If you’d like to do some stocking up, wait for the product to go on sale, not just a sale, but a super sale. Take matching coupons in hand, and head for the supermarket. This is a great concept because whenever you use the product you’ll know you got it at the best possible price.
